We were married in my parents' back yard in Aurora, Ohio at 6pm on 27 July, 1993. There were 40-50 guests in attendance. (I never got a final head count). I wore an ivory floor-length dress (I can't describe it better than that, if you want a better description you'll have to wait until the wedding pics are developed and I scan them in and put them up for ftp :). Chris wore his grey suit. I didn't bother with the old/new/borrowed/blue thing, except Chris borrowed a pair of my father's dark socks (he had forgot to pack his :).
The Mayor of Aurora married us. A guy my mother knew from work took the pictures (using all the equipment from work so it was a reasonably priced package). Another guy my mother knew did the catering. My 19 year old sister was my MOH and Chris' 18 year old brother was his BM. They (my sister and his brother) also supervised the music (probably a mistake in retrospect, since they both like Pearl Jam and Chris and I don't :)
I was in my dress at 5pm for pictures, and out of it at approximately 6:30pm (we said "I do" at about 6:10). We then changed into T-shirt and shorts and were very glad :) It was approximately 85F at wedding time with a high percentage of humidity.
I must admit, the only thing I was worried about by the time it came to the afternoon of the wedding was if Chris would like my dress or not. He hadn't seen it (noone would let me show it to him!) But he liked it just fine :)
We spent the day before the wedding swimming, and the day of the wedding going computer software shopping. :) Geeks 'til the end. :) In fact, we already got the wedding video back, and you can see our calculator watches while we exchange rings :) Very geeky :)
For the reception dinner (again, in my parents back yard, but under a
tent) we had:
appetizers: chips & salsa, phyllo purse with black beans, pepper jack
cheese, and fresh coriander
dinner: beef kabobs, chicken kabobs, shrimp kabobs chilled red skin potatoes and french cut green beans a la nicoise composed salad of romaine lettuce, radicchio, fresh watercress, orange slices, strawberries, and kiwi fruit with raspberry vinaigrette. lots of rolls & bread
drinks: citrus & herbal iced tea
mocha java & kahlua coffee
all sorts of soft drinks (Chris and I drink Dr Pepper :)
English Cider for the toast
wedding cake: two cakes. one English, one American. Traditional English
cake (aka Christmas Cake :) -- dark fruit cake with
marzipan and Royal Icing.
American Cake -- Chocolate Cake with normal icing (does it
have a special name?)
Favorite gifts: Chris' Mom had hand-made quilts made for us (one each :)
My Dad's office sent us a dozen roses along with a pair
of Cleveland Indians hats, an Indians bat used by an
Indians player!, an Indians baseball, and a book on
Cleveland Municipal Stadium. (Chris and I are baseball
fans :)
One of my friends got us a waffle-maker that makes
waffles in animal shapes!
The guests came from: Tacoma, Washington. Coventry, England. Pasadena, California. Pittsburgh, PA. Louisville, KY. And other nearby places :)
We're postponing going on our honeymoon right away. My parents said they'll buy us two round-trip tickets to England next year, so we're going to go to the big airshow there at Farnborough in June.
So it's over! Finally! *sigh of relief* :)
I'll post when I have my pictures scanned and up for ftp :)
