The Marriage of Helen Rose and Christopher Davis
Wedding Summary, as posted to
alt.wedding on 29 July 1993.
Who?
I married Christopher Davis.
When?
27 July 1993
Where?
My parents' house in Aurora, Ohio
Why?
Now this is a dicey one. We had no need to get married. We had been living
in sin (as it were) for several years. We saw no reason to justify this
(and thus get hit with more taxes. grrr) to anyone but ourselves.
The reason came down to our families. They had not been pressuring us, but
we thought it important that we get married for them. My
Grandmother was going to be visiting the USA from England. So we thought
"what the hell".
Who attended?
Among the guests were:
Family
- My parents, Rosaleen and Steve Rose, from Aurora, Ohio.
- My sister, Emma Rose, from Aurora, Ohio.
- My paternal Grandmother, Helen Rose, from Bedworth, Warwickshire, England.
- My Aunt and Uncle, David and Patricia Rose, from Coventry, West
Midlands, England.
- Christopher's parents, Jon and Judie Davis, from Steilacoom, Washington.
- Christopher's brother, Jason
Davis, from Steilacoom, Washington.
- Christopher's maternal Grandmother, Betty Kip, from Scottsdale, Arizona.
Friends, all from Ohio unless otherwise stated.
- Marci Yesowitch and her date,
Timothy Miller. Marci was living in Louisville, Kentucky, and Timothy
was living in San Antonio, Texas.
- Vera and Joey Croce, from Steilacoom Washington
- Laura Uhl
- Michelle Lantos
- Maria Collura
- Linda Brown
- Audrey Moore
- Ruth and Chas Ridley
- Nan Ridley, from Isle of Wight, England
Work colleagues, who flew in for the wedding! All of them from greater
Boston, Massachusetts.
- Rosemary Nolan
- Janet Tropeano
- John Power
- Mike Cassidy
- our boss, Mitch Kapor
What kind of food was served?
Buffet:
Guacamole and Spicy Salsa with Corn Tortilla Chips
Phyllo Purse with Black Beans, Pepper Jack Cheese, and Fresh Coriander
Assisted Buffet Dinner:
- Grilled Beef Kabobs with Sweet Red Onions, Snow Mushrooms, and Garden
Tomatoes, marinated in Olive Oil, Garlic, and Fresh Herbs
- Grilled Boneless Breast of Chicken, Pineapple and Mango en Brochette
with a fresh ginger and hoisin sauce
- Grilled Gulf Shrip and Sweet Red and Green Peppers en Brochette with
Coriander Dipping Sauce
- Chilled Red Skin Potatoes and French-Cut Green Beans a la Nicoise
- Composed Salad of romaine lettuce, radicchio, fresh watercress, orange
slices, strawberries, and kiwi fruit with raspberry vinaigrette
- Assorted Freshly Baked Breads and Rolls
Decaffeinated Mocha Java and Kahlua Coffee and Citrus and Herbal Ice Tea
We also had two wedding cakes, one English, one American. The English was
a traditional fruitcake (aka "Christmas Cake") with marzipan (brought over
especially for the occasion in my Grandmother's carryon bags :-) and Royal
Icing. The American was a chocolate cake with white frosting.
Pictures
Of course, no wedding would be complete without pictures. We had two sets,
the inside set (the set of pictures taken inside my parents' house), and
the outside set (guess where this set was taken).
All of the pictures are in JPEG format.
- A picture of both
immediate families. The back row, from left to right, my Dad (Steve
Rose), my sister (Emma Rose), Chris' brother (Jason Davis),
Christopher's Dad (Jon Davis). The front row, from left to right, my Mom
(Rosaleen Rose), me (Helen Rose), my husband (Christopher Davis),
Christopher's Mom (Judie Davis).
- A picture of my
sister and I
- A picture of My
husband, Christopher Davis, and his brother, Jason Davis.
- A picture of Christopher's parents
(Jon and Judie Davis), and Christopher and I.
- A picture of Christopher and I, long
view.
- A picture of Helen's parents and
Christopher and Helen.
- A picture of The
Grandmas. My Grandma is next to me (she's the one with the red
hair). Christopher's Grandma is next to him.
- A picture of Emma,
Helen, Christopher, and Jason
- A picture of Christopher
- A picture of The
Tent. It was green. Of course :-)
- A picture of Emma and
Jason
- A picture of Helen's
Auntie Pat and Uncle David, along with Helen and Chris
- A picture of The wedding
balloons. Instead of flowers (which we are allergic to), we had
helium filled balloons. The day after the wedding the balloons went off
to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Much better than flowers that
die.
- A picture of The English
Wedding Cake.
- Yet Another picture of Just Helen
- A picture of The Vile
Gate that my parents had put up in the back yard. We've been joking
we're going to accidentally knock it down.
- A picture of Christopher and
Helen, outside, after the ceremony.
- Yet Another Picture of Christopher and Helen.
- Are you bored of seeing pictures of us?.
- A picture of Helen, alone,
outside after the ceremony. My Grandmother has this picture on her wall.
- Last one. Christopher and I
